Research conducted in recent decades has shown that there are significant variations in speed at roundabouts depending on the geometric elements. Due to the characteristics of roundabouts and the way vehicles move, there is a reduction in speed, not only in the roundabout zone, but also at the approaches to the roundabout. This paper analyzes the influence of different types of roundabouts as one of the elements of the street system, on speed as one of the basic parameters of traffic flow that defines the functionality and quality of traffic conditions. The research of speeds was done on the ap- proaches to the roundabout, as one of the characteristic segments of the roundabout.
The availability of real-time data on the state of railway facilities and the state-of-the art technologies for data collection and analysis allow transition to the fourth generation maintenance. It is based on the prediction of the facility functional safety and dependability and the risk-oriented facility management. The article describes an approach to assessing the risks of hazardous facility failures using the latest digital data processing methods. The implementation of this approach will help set maintenance objectives and contribute to the efficient use of resources and the reduction of railway facility managers’ expenditures.
